Extend Your “Work” Day by 30 Minutes
Sometimes the only way to find some private time is to really schedule it into your day. Working moms often feel like they’re missing out on something at home and tend to rush from work back to the kids. Break this habit, and consider scheduling an extra 30 minutes into your “work” day. If you get home at 6 pm instead of 5:30 pm is it really going to make that big of a difference in how your evening goes? Leave work at the same time, but use that extra 30 minutes to call a friend you’ve been wanting to catch up with, stop into that shop you’ve been dying to check out, or taking a moment to meditate at a quiet spot.
Taking this time to yourself before re-entering your family life will give you a chance to re-center yourself. And doing so means you’ll be entering your house for dinner, homework, and bedtime with more calm and focus than if you rushed home.
