Wrapping paper usually hides gifts, but this wrapping paper craft is a gift all on its own. Kids can decorate this paper craft with any design they like.

What You'll Need:

  • Food coloring or tempera paint
  • Liquid starch
  • Bowl
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Newspaper
  • Spoon
  • Paper
  • Sea sponge

How to Make Gift-Wrapping Paper:

Step 1: For patterned gift wrap, mix food coloring or tempera paint with liquid starch in a bowl to make a thick paint.

Step 2: Make design combs by cutting cardboard into small rectangles 1 to 3 inches wide. Cut notches on one side of each rectangle, making variations in the rectangles so that each comb can be used to create a different effect. The notches can be cut closer or farther apart, the teeth can be wider or narrower, or you can even vary the width of the notches and teeth on a rectangle.

Step 3: Spread newspaper to cover the working surface. Lay your wrapping paper on the newspaper, and, using the spoon, cover it with the finger paint.

Step 4: Use the notched edge of the cardboard squares to create designs in the paint by combing over the surface of the paper. For a textured wrapping paper, use the sea sponge to dab paint onto a piece of unpainted paper. Let the paper dry overnight.
