Make a Motor Mat with your kids so they can find all their favorite places in your neighborhood. With your motor mat, your kids can find their way to the movies, the mall, or any other place they want to go.

How to Make a Motor Mat:

What You'll Need:

  • 1-1/4 yard of vinyl fabric
  • Blunt scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Cord
  • Permanent markers

Step One: Cut a 40-inch square of vinyl fabric. Cut holes in the fabric and string cord in and out of each hole as shown in the illustration.

Step Two: Use permanent markers to draw roads, rivers, and railroads on one side of the vinyl fabric. Start in the middle and work out. Let the markers dry before your kids play. Make roads just like the ones in your neighborhood.

Step Three: Add parking places, a pond, and squares where wooden buildings might be placed. Use a green marker to draw trees and bushes. Let the markers dry.Step Four: Draw traffic signs, gas stations, and important buildings on your mat. When your kids are done playing, pull the cord to close the mat into a bag.
