Wading Pool Activities for Kids

A pool is an easy way to keep kids active and happy throughout the summer. If you don't have a pool at your home, try these wading pool activities for kids to keep your youngsters busy for hours.

We've got a few new twists on the old kiddie pool, in the form of these wading pool activities. So drag that pool out of the garage, break out the garden hose, and let the soaking begin!

Wet 'n' Wild Water Race

The wet 'n' wild water race brings kids the joy of running by the pool without the upset of getting shouted at by a lifeguard!

What You'll Need:

  • Friends
  • Wading pools or large tubs
  • Buckets
  • Water
  • Paper cups

On your mark ... get wet ... go! You and your friends should divide into two even-numbered teams. Place two pools or tubs side by side and fill each one with the same amount of water.

Put empty buckets side by side about 30 steps away from the pools. Each team should have its own pool and bucket. Every player should grab a paper cup and stand in a line beside their bucket. Then ... you're off!

The first kid in line for each team should run toward their pool, scoop up a cup of water as fast as possible, run back to their bucket, and dump the water in it.

Then the next kid in line should make a run for it and do the same thing. The first team to fill its bucket wins the race!

Kids can explore the mysteries of the shallows -- blindfolded! -- in the activity on the next page.

Wade and Wonder Activity

Try this wade and wonder activity and let your fingers guess the watery secrets. Splashing around in a wading pool is fun, but you can only splash so long. If your energy runs out before the heat fades, try this with a partner.

What You'll Need:

  • Wading pool
  • At least 10 floating toys
  • Blindfold

Drop 10 to 20 floating toys in the pool. Blindfold one player while the other acts as a guide. One by one, the guide should hand the toys to the blindfolded player.

Can the blindfolded player guess which toy is which? Keep track of how many he or she gets right. Now switch places, and see how well the guide does when the tables are turned.
