The high-flying hello activity is one rare instance when kids can safely make friends with a stranger. By tying a simple 'hello' to a balloon, they can bring a smile to someone's face without ever meeting them -- and they might get a 'hello' in return.
What You'll Need:
- Helium balloons
- Pencil or pen
Buy inexpensive helium balloons, tie them together, and help your child compose a simple 'hello' postcard to tie on to the string. Be sure to offer a safe return address, like you or your spouse's work address.
Add a stamp and request on the postcard that the person who finds the postcard write something and drop it in the mail. Now set the balloons free and hope for the chance for your child to say hello to a new friend! They may be hearing from someone many miles away before they know it.
Kids can create their own high-flying kite from scratch. Learn how on the next page.
