Handmade, sheer roses from ribbon add a final touch to any table or festive accessory. They're easy to make, with just a few simple instructions. Below, you'll find directions for two types of ribbon roses.
Rose 1
What you need:
- 1 ½ yards (2.3 meters) of 2 ½ -inch wire-edge ribbon
- Floral stem wire
- Green floral tape
- Glue gun
Here's what to do:
- Gather the edge of the wired ribbon. Slide the ribbon along the wire toward one end to make a ruffle.
- Glue the gathered edge of the ruffle to the top of the floral stem wire to hold it in place.
- Gently wrap the ribbon around the base and around the wire stem, forming petals as you go.
- Finish the bottom of the rose by taping floral tape around the base and down the stem [source: saveoncrafts].
Rose 2
What you need:
- 1 yard (92 centimeters) of 1 ½-inch sheer or organdy ribbon
- Artificial leaves
- Needle and thread
- Glue gun
Here's what to do:
- Fold the ribbon diagonally at one end, making a little curlicue that will be the rose's center. Secure this with a tiny stitch.
- Fold the long end of the ribbon over one turn. Curve the ribbon at the center of the rose, to form a petal. Stitch it in place at the bottom.
- Continue folding the ribbon to form new petals, stitching the bottom of each, until you have 10 petals.
- Baste about 6 inches (15.2 centimeters) of ribbon to the bottom of the petals. Pull the stitch to gather the fabric. Stitch the fabric in place.
- Wrap more ribbon around the existing petals.
- Repeat making petals, as in step 3, until the ribbon is used up.
- Glue the finished rose onto the leaves [source: sewing corsage].
