This indoor craft is great to decorate any space in the house. A Stunning Sunflower Wreath is a kids' craft too good to feed to the birds.
What You'll Need:
- Mature sunflower seed head, well dried
- Dry wheat, barley, or wild grass heads
- Millet spray (available at a pet food store)
- 1 yard of cloth or plastic ribbon
- Silk or plastic flowers
- 2 wire twist ties
- Paring or craft knife (adult help needed)
- Cool-temp glue gun and glue sticks
How to Make the Stunning Sunflower Wreath:
Step 1: Remove the center section of a sunflower seed head by cutting all around the stem on the back side and pushing it gently out toward the front.
Step 2: Wrap the ribbon through the center of the sunflower and tie a knot.
Step 3: Gather the wheat, millet spray, and flowers into a bundle and wrap them with a wire twist tie. Use the glue gun to secure the bundle to the ribbon's knot, then tie the ribbon in a pretty bow.
Step 4: Wrap the second wire twist tie around the ribbon at the back of the sunflower head to make a hanging loop.
Tip: Giant sunflower blossoms lose their petals and turn into mature seed heads in the fall. Ask a gardener to save a sunflower head for you -- or grow giant sunflowers yourself in your backyard or in a patio container. Sunflowers like rich soil, bright sunshine, and lots of water.
