Make the Clay Pocket Ornament from a full circle and a half circle of clay.
Make the Clay Pocket Ornament from a full circle and a half circle of clay.

Create this special Clay Pocket Ornament to put on a wall, hang as a Christmas tree ornament, or hide tiny treasures in.

What You'll Need:

  • White polymer clay
  • Rolling pin
  • Waxed paper
  • Toothpicks
  • Craft knife
  • Items such as keys, coins, or buttons (to make impressions in clay)
  • Drinking straw
  • Aluminum foil
  • Acrylic paints
  • Paintbrush

Roll out a 1/4-inch-thick layer of clay, on waxed paper. Use a toothpick to make the outline of a 5-inch-diameter circle (the back piece) and a 2-1/2-inch half circle (the pocket) in the clay. Cut both pieces from the clay (have an adult help you with the craft knife).

If you want to decorate your clay pocket, press some small items in both clay pieces, or use a toothpick to make tiny impressions, such as baseball stitching.

Place the half-circle pocket piece over the back piece and pinch the edges together. Then use the straw to punch a hole at the top.

Place a piece of crumpled foil into the pocket to hold it open while it dries. With an adult's help, bake clay according to package directions. Once it has cooled, paint with acrylic paints.
