To make the Brightly Blooming Quilted Pillow Pattern:

  1. From light blue, cut one 121/2 X 18-inch rectangle. From medium blue, cut one 61/2 X 18-inch rectangle and two 131/2 X 18-inch rectangles. From dark blue, cut two 3 X 44-inch strips. Stitch together end to end and cut to make 80-inch strip.

  2. To make pillow front, stitch light blue rectangle to 61/2 X 18-inch medium blue rectangle along long sides, using 1/2-inch seam allowance. For pillow back, fold 1 long edge of one 131/2 X 18-inch medium blue rectangle 1/4 inch and press. Fold over again and stitch. Repeat for other medium blue rectangle. With right sides up, lay dark blue rectangles on flat surface, overlapping finished edges to form 18-inch square. Stay-stitch across overlapped edges. Set aside.

  3. Download and cut out patterns. Fold yellow and red fabrics in half with right sides together. Trace petal pattern on wrong side of yellow 3 times and wrong side of red 5 times. Leave at least 1/2 inch between shapes. Stitch on traced lines all the way around each shape and cut out, leaving 1/4-inch seam allowance. Slash as marked on pattern and turn. Cut 1 yellow and 2 red petals in half. Fold remaining double petals in half along fold line marked on pattern. Insert half petal in center of each folded petal and stitch to secure at lower cut edge.

  5. From green, cut two 4 X 1-inch strips, one 7 X 1-inch strip, one 61/2 X 1-inch strip, and one 31/2 X 1-inch strip. Fold strips in half lengthwise, stitch, and turn.

  6. With right sides together, fold orange fabric in half. Trace pot pattern on wrong side of fabric and stitch all the way around shape on traced line. Cut out, leaving 1/4-inch seam allowance. Cut slit, turn, and press. Fold down upper lip of pot and fold up lower rim along fold lines as shown on pattern with slit to back. Press.

  7. Arrange pot and flowers on pillow top. Cut stems to fit. Place leaves at base of stems along upper lip of pot. Invisibly hand stitch each shape in place, leaving leaf ends and dimensional parts of pot free.

  8. Mark centers of each side of pillow back 1/2 inch from edge and corners 1 inch from edge. Draw a line to connect marks. This will minimize "rabbit ears" effect.

  9. With right sides out, fold dark blue strip over cording and stitch close to cording using zipper foot. Pin cording along marked line on right side of pillow back, clipping seam allowance of cording at corners to fit. To finish ends of cording, open seams where cording ends meet, cut cording to fit together exactly, overlap seam allowances, and stitch back together to create continuous cording border. Stitch cording to pillow back. With right sides together, pin pillow front and back. Stitch around all 4 sides using zipper foot to get as close to cording as possible. Remove stay-stitching from pillow back and turn. Insert pillow form.
