Happy Holidays Quilted Card Holder Pattern

How to Make Happy Holidays Quilted Card Holder Pattern

There never seems to be a good spot to keep those beautiful cards that arrive each holiday season. Finally, we have the answer -- the Happy Holidays Quilted Card Holder.

To make the Happy Holidays Quilted Card Holder Pattern:

  1. Select images from Christmas fabric for decorations. Cut a piece of fusible webbing slightly larger than each image selected and iron to wrong side of fabric. Cut out each image and remove paper backing.

  2. From dark green, cut two 9 X 12-inch rectangles. From straw-colored print, cut two 8-inch squares. From cotton flannel, cut one 9 X 12-inch rectangle and one 8-inch square. From ribbon, cut one 13-inch length and two 10-inch lengths. (Remaining ribbon can be used to decorate designs as desired.)

  3. Center cutout design on right side of one 8-inch straw-colored square. Fuse. Arrange ribbon around design edges and topstitch in place.

  4. Cover decorated pocket piece with other straw-colored square, placing right sides together. Add 8-inch cotton flannel square on top. Stitch around edges, using 1/2-inch seam allowance and leaving 3-inch opening for turning.

  5. Trim seam allowance to 1/4 inch and clip across corners, taking care not to cut into stitching. Turn right side out and press. Slip-stitch bottom edge closed. Quilt around design as desired.

  6. Place pocket on top of right side of one 9 X 12-inch dark green rectangle. Position pocket with 1 inch of green fabric on either side and below it. Center another Christmas design in space above pocket, remembering that outer 1/2 inch of green fabric is seam allowance.

  7. Fuse upper design in place. Set pocket aside. Arrange ribbon around edges of upper design and topstitch in place.

Clip across top 2 corners, taking care not to cut into stitching.
